Dump Truck Races
We took a quick trip in the afternoon to the Bay Area Discovery Museum where Porter had a great time. Most autistic kids, including Porter, have a hard time connecting with other kids usually because of their language deficit and social awkwardness. On this day, however, Porter began racing a dump truck up and down the kid-size replica of the Golden Gate Bridge. A couple of other kids joined in and the dump truck races were a huge hit with a number of the kids there. The important part, at least in terms of Porter's development, is that he managed to play with these other kids as opposed to the parallel play or no play that usually occurs in these situations. He was very happy doing it and I was bursting with happiness to see him so engaged.
