Thursday afternoon and evening, I went to an archive beer tasting at
Lagunitas Brewery in Petaluma after a kind invitation from Pat Mace and Ron Lindenbusch. In the photo, owner Tony Magee holds up a 1987 bottle Xcelsior Brewing beer made by Brian Hunt for a special event for the Sonoma County Museum. The beer, now 17 years old had lost much of is lustre but was still not as bad as one might expect. Brian Hunt, now the owner/brewer of
Mooonlight Brewing Co., can be seen at the back of the bar next to Pat Mace. Other beers there were four years of Lagunitas Gnarlywine, three years of Brown Shugga, some other oldies such as Junior and Eroica. There was also a magnum of Mendocino Red Tail Ale from the first year of their production in 1983. It held up surprising well and was still quite drinkable. A great time was had by all. It was nice to see a lot of old friends and drink some great beer.
