Last Day of School: Christmas Break

Today was Porter's last day of school before Christmas. He's off for the holidays until January. In the notebook he takes to school everyday there had been vague notes with stuff like "today I made a reindeer" and "this star looks like Santa." But what that meant, we really couldn't say ... until now. They sent home for the holiday break about half a dozen works of art Porter did over the last few weeks, two of which are below:

This is the Reindeer his notebook spoke of. Porter's hands make up the antlers and his foot is the nose.

This piece is more abstract. I know the green and red represent Christmas, as do the maniacal looking gingerbread men with their black smiles, but what the hell are those bold green lines meant to denote? Also, the bow is obvious, but not the other shape above it. The top half of a candy cane perhaps? And lastly, what's the straight line doing on the left hand side? Order in chaos? Who knows, and the artiste isn't talking. Anybody else have an interpretation? Let's hear it.
