Conversationally Speaking

One of the difficulties with Porter's language delay is that we really don't have true conversations with him. We exchange information certainly, but it's more like him communicating his needs and us asking him to do things. Back and forth exchanges beyond that are virtually non-existent. This morning, however, he and I had a quasi-conversational exchange. Sure it was rudimentary, but I'm still pretty excited about it because of what it may augur for the future. It went something like this:

Porter: What happened [to] Murdoch? (Murdoch is a train in the Thomas the Tank Engine pantheon).

Me: I don't know, what happened to Murdoch?

Porter: Murdoch fall down.

Me: Is he okay? Does Murdoch have a boo-boo?

Porter: Yes, boo-boo.

Me: Do you want me to kiss boo-boo?

Porter: Yes, kiss boo-boo.

Okay, it's not Chekov but I'll take it. It's definitely a good first step and for the first time has all the elements of actual conversation.
