Horsing Around

We finally got the okay for Porter's first horseback ride at Halleck Creek Ranch this Saturday. Regular readers will recall that we attended an orientation for this a few weeks ago. It's a free charity of the local 4H along with some local business contributors including, most notably, George Lucas. We signed up Porter for the morning session and he got to ride from about 9:00 a.m. until after 10:30 a.m.

Sarah adjusts Porter's riding helmet.

The first thing they do is take the kids around an indoor track to get them oriented and used to the horse. Porter's volunteer was a young girl named Madison. His horse's name was Poppy. Poppy was half Shetland Pony and half miniature horse.

After a few minutes, Porter started to relax and even to enjoy himself.

After everyone was ready, they left the indoor track and headed out onto the trail for an hour's ride through some beautiful Marin countreyside.

Alice and I were spectators as Sarah walked along with Porter and Madison.

Porter and Poppy cross the actual Halleck Creek during their ride.
